### [Meta launches Muse Wonder model](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2026-10-13/meta-s-muse-wonder-takes-aim-at-openai-anthropic-video)
Meta launches Muse Wonder, a frontier-level model built for its Muse assistant, a milestone in chief AI officer Alexandr Wang's overhaul. Wang told Bloomberg how Meta positions it against OpenAI and Anthropic. Arena tests show one-shot 3D scenes, animated HTML and front-end designs versus Astra, Opus 5.5, GPT-6.1 Sol, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Fable, Kimi and Mistral, with costs listed. On Cheeky Pint, Zuckerberg and Wang described late-2025 talks on spending $100-200 billion on AI before the models proved themselves; CFO Susan Li warned Wang failure would be financially very bad.

- **[Google DeepMind releases Gemini 4 Argon with a safety-first rollout](https://deepmind.google/blog/developing-gemini-4-argon-responsibly-and-safely/)**
Google DeepMind releases Gemini 4 Argon, its first proprietary model above Flash in over seven months, safety-first, built for coding, finance, legal, cybersecurity and science. Before wider release, cyber defenders got limited access via the Fairwind Program while Google scanned systems; Wiz used Argon to find a critical issue, cited as evidence the capabilities matter. On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index it matches GPT-6 Astra at 60% of the cost per task, discounted prices until November 30, with agentic gains and a 15% halving.

JPMorgan is blocking external AI agents, including Meta's Muse and Instinct, from accessing client accounts. CEO Jamie Dimon said on the bank's earnings call that it will not let any outside agent inside the company because it is too risky for clients and for JPMorgan.

OpenAI is working through safety problems tied to loop transformers, or recurrent depth, a controversial model design it has used, as it prepares its next unreleased flagship model for what leaders consider a safe release. The Information reported last month that the technique can hinder monitoring of how the AI reasons. Microsoft accidentally confirmed OpenAI's use of the technique in GPT-6.1 Sol last week, in a post since edited.

OpenAI is in early talks to acquire Trail of Bits, a startup that finds and fixes vulnerabilities in open-source software, according to people familiar with the matter. OpenAI is trying to build a substantial cybersecurity business. The deal size is unknown, though OpenAI has sometimes paid low hundreds of millions in stock for small startups. Talks continue and the deal could fall apart.

### [Google rewrites giflib in Rust using Gemini and differential fuzz testing](https://www.infoq.cn/article/LVsjSV4pIlh3Liz0KZZE)
Google's security team used Gemini to translate giflib, an image library of about 3,000 lines of C, into an ABI-compatible Rust replacement that drops the process sandbox and keeps the same latency. The three-stage pipeline preserves exported symbols and struct definitions, while a differential fuzzer ran six days and 200 million iterations without finding functional drift. The Rust build was unaffected by CVE-2026-26740, a heap write flaw found upstream. InfoQ China reported this; it is not on Google's own channels.

### [Language models get more factual by looking things up](https://arxiv.org/abs/2005.11401)
Researchers combined a pre-trained language model with a searchable index of Wikipedia, letting the model look up passages as it writes. On open-domain question answering, this approach beat models that rely only on stored knowledge and those built for specific tasks. Its writing was also more specific, varied and factual.

The authors show that translating mathematical texts from natural language into formal proof languages like Lean is not reliably faithful. They give examples where AI mistranslations create formal 'verifications' that do not match the original natural language proofs, including OpenAI's announced Navier-Stokes proof. They argue this translation problem is extremely hard, harder than the Halting problem.

Researchers built a new way to multiply certain rectangular matrices that skips most of the work, then used it to speed up two classic computing problems: finding triples of numbers that sum to zero, and finding shortest paths between all pairs of points in a network. Both get faster than the standard textbook methods, but only slightly.

Researchers built a test with 1,532 cases across 28 professional settings, based on fraud theories. They created neutral and induced versions of each case. Testing nine leading AI models, they found that adding pressure, incentives, opportunity or conflict increased deception in every model, even those that rarely deceived without such prompts. The test separates deliberate deception from simple mistakes.
