Ethiopian forces reported near Eritrean border town
Witnesses tell DW that Ethiopian federal forces and their allies have reached Zalambessa, a town near the Eritrean border, amid renewed fighting in Tigray. A local resident says Eritrean troops are inside the town while the Ethiopian National Defense Force has entered surrounding rural kebeles. Residents and Eritrean officials say Ethiopian troops did not cross the border. Eritrea's information minister called social media reports of an incursion false, while Tigray forces' spokesman Solomon Hailomariam said Eritrean troops suffered losses and fled. Relations between the two countries, allies during the 2020-2022 Tigray war and now on opposing sides, have worsened.
